So, Kobe vs. Duncan. I'm leaning towards Kobe. Their peaks are about equal, but Kobe's has lasted a bit longer (which has been a surprise to me--I thought for sure he'd have hit a wall by now).

I'm going to take a fresh look at the whole thing. I'm kind of comfortable with the top 12, though (with a possible change on Kobe's placement).

i think it sucks. but then again, i think any attempt at arbitrarily weighting individual (flawed) statistics into one giant combination that is supposed to show overall efficiency is kind of stupid to begin with. how much is a rebound worth? how much is a steal worth relative to a block or 2 points? how much does a foul hurt?

i generally don't like any combination of stats. i like specific individual stats. if you are going to combine them, don't make it arbitrary. don't combine blocks with points. maybe give me "points per possession used" that would take into account all field goal attempts, free throw attempts, and turnovers. or give me a "turnover differential" that accounts for turnovers forced vs turnovers given. but trying to combine them all? pointless and stupid imo.

I still hate the bashing Kobe gets. Shaq won those 3 titles....Gasol won the other 2.

Take Kobe completely off of those 5 championship teams and see what the results are.

has jeremy lin done enough to guarantee immortality on a list such as this? he has played better this season than either vince carter or tracy mcgrady, who are ranked 89 and 58, respectively... though not better than dwight howard... just being realistic. so i'm proposing lin is placed in the 56-58 range.

since he started to get meaningful minutes, his numbers are 25.3ppg, 8.3apg, 3.7rpg, 1.7spg, with 58% FG%. those are mvp-caliber stats, and every nba mvp ever has made it on the list. secondly, he is the greatest asian basketball player ever, only rivaled by yao ming (whose career best year of 25.0ppg can barely touch lin's), so he gets major props for cultural impact, too. he is also a proven winner, since his team is 3-0 when he gets meaningful playing time. in fact, that winning percentage is better than bill russell's
