You're right. I think I typed the numbers in wrong and was too lazy to check. Almost 7% is still a bit high.

Anyway, I think I might agree with you on Clemente.

I might agree with him on Clemente as well.

That's interesting, because Duncan is further ahead of Clemente than Orr is ahead of Gehrig. Duncan is considered the top power forwad ever, while Clemente is no better than the #5 RFer. He is clearly below Ruth, Aaron, Frank Robinson and Mel Ott, and possibly below some others too (Reggie, Kaline, Crawford, Gwynn).

Why would you maybe see Clemente as better than Duncan, but say "no way" to Gehrig over Orr?

Well emphasis on might but Clemente had a huge impact on the sport of baseball. The reason I say Orr over Gehrig is two parts. One Orr was the better player in his sport (he's a clear top 5 of all time). Two he completely changed the way the defensive position in hockey was played. That's a giant impact on the sport (I'd say it's akin to Ruth's impact on the way baseball is played but not quite as impactful since it only touched one position). Also Orr is a significantly better player in his sport than Duncan is in his (though Gehrig is obviously a fairly significantly better player than Clemente). In hockey Wayne Gretzky is clearly the best player. After that the only two players with even an argument to be placed over Orr are Gordie Howe and Super Mario (who speaking of which should have 66). If you expanded to goaltenders the two best of all time are Roy and Brodeur but I don't think either have a case to be placed over Orr either. So innovation with unparalleled quality in a popular sport clearly reads ahead of Gehrig to me.

Like Gehrig, much of Clemente's impact came because he died young.

He was a great player before that, but he did not become a real bonafide legend until the 1971 World Series and then his death just over a year after that.

I mean, he was not even the best player in his league at his position, and was not even the second best until Frank Robinson went to the AL after 1965.

Conversely Duncan is the least dynamic all time great player in NBA history.

I'd go with Clemente only because baseball is much bigger than the NBA, especially during Duncan's career.

Yeah, you don't know how luck you are. This stat-driven nonsense is mind-numbing. It's good for building a team, but it takes a lot of the fun out (except for a few uber nerds).

I'm not a baseball guy at all, so I couldn't tell you anything about that dude. But is he more deserving than Troy Aikman?

and what about Jim Otto for #00?
