yes of course... two grand slams, a 43 game win streak, reaching semis in 11 of last 17 grand slams, and consistently going toe-to-toe with arguably the two best ever is enough to get you a spot

seeing mr. number 30s records , with his streaks which were broken with the use of an illegal racket and a lot of titles, he could perhaps raise a bit ....

reaching 5 grand slam finals is not bad... that's more than hewitt, safin, chang, rafter, kuerten, kodes, quist, or kafelnikov can claim, for example... being arguably the greatest server of his generation counts in his favor, too, i think. if anyone is least deserving of an honorable mentions spot, it's probably muster.

haha muster i love that guy. i remember when everyone was blowing up because he'd reached #1 (prob after he won the french) but had never ever gotten past the first round at wimbledon
but seriously i dont have a prob with any of the hon mentions, there could even more. roddick could be #3 server behind sampras and goran all time

I remember Mac listing his top 8 servers of all time on tv here this week. Obviously Goran, Pete and Roddick were there. He mentioned Becker too, Karlovic, maybe Isner too.

Speaking of Goran, could we add him to the honourable mentions?

Does John McEnroe's formidable doubles record have something to do with him being above people like Lendl and Agassi?

possibly... to be honest, i was afraid he'd yell at me if i put him any lower.

also, rv made me realize that i underrated the hell out of ken rosewall. and, i'll try to find a place for djoko in the top 30 for next edition. any other comments or suggestions? alternative lists are welcome. i feel like a bunch of you know tennis much better than i do anyway.

btw, good resource:

also, speaking of lendl, another interesting thing to consider: he was 22-13 against connors, and 21-15 against johnny mac. of the three, i still think connors is greater, but i can see lendl going ahead of mcenroe, going by longevity and consistency.

ok, i can now rephrase my earlier post/question. Shouldn't John McEnroe's formidable doubles record place him above Ivan Lendl given their roughly similar singles careers?
