my two favorite fighters - fedor and geghard - both fell on the wrong side of the ufc fence and neither can get an opponent... unless geghard fights feijao/kyle for strikeforce title in the next few months, i think he has the right to lock a rear-naked choke on scott coker or whoever has the authority to get him to ufc and force the issue.

Had my first MMA session tonight. Was just ground work, but holy shit. I totally underestimated how strong your core needed to be for this shit. Also, I can't feel my legs.

so, erik koch... damn good fighter, but i thought he had to get through poirier first... so now he gets the title shot after defeating jonathan brookins i think poirier is the better fighter, and he'll get through korean zombie and i think will be aldo's toughest challenge ever (and might possibly defeat him). and i hope he gets the shot before frankie edgar moves down to featherweight.

went through a 2 hour MMA session, seeing lesnar's matches(since hes back in WWE and Im a big fan) and some of Fedor's of course. Fedor's a freaking machine. seems to win matches out of nowhere with his submission skills.

Fedor was the guy that got me into mma in the first place, i became a fan right during his reign of dominance. He had this aura to him during that period, watching his fights live was so exhilarating too. There just seemed to be so much on the line every time he fought. I remember for the brett rogers fight i was so nervous, fedor was getting tagged more often than usual then the huge ko comes out from nowhere. "The former project kid from the cabrini greEEENNNNNS" I was happy about that for days. I'd recommend checking out anderson silva's fights next (avoid the cote, maia and leites fights though)



Hioki actually got offered the shot but he said he wanted one more fight before going ahead with it. Poirer is locked up with the korean zombie so i guess koch was the next choice, koch is quite a good striker but i agree that jose will probably run through him. Should be quite an exciting fight though. Poirer is still very young, i don't think they need to rush things with him. The korean zombie is a good test to see where he is at.

prediction: Cigano KOs Mir within a minute... possibly within 30 seconds... there's no way in hell Mir can hang with him longer than that, and he has no business doing anything in the cage with JdS in the first place...

also, why is everyone so dense??? how hard is it to learn to pronounce the man's name properly?? i've gotten used to everyone (except barnett and helwani) mispronouncing fedor's name... but this is stupid laziness and i feel that they're taking the piss...

(i also didn't like the way rogan was actively rooting for belcher during the fight, but now i don't care because palhares didn't deserve to be rooted for anyway)


very impressed by nate diaz (i underestimated him vs cerrone, and didn't think he'd be able to finish jim miller, either)... from what i understand, he now gets the winner of benson/frankie rematch? it will be awesome...

also, pat barry is such a tiny heavyweight, kind of like fedor/mirko, only extremely one-dimensional... he probably can't cut to 205, either, but i still feel bad for him getting KOed by these enormous guys...
what do you guys think lavar's ceiling is? he's been gifted other mindless brawlers so far... i feel like the moment he encounters a half-decent wrestler/ground-specialist or someone even a little tactically sound, he has little chance...


PS: go dave herman!!!!! one of my favorite fighters, i love seeing him on that heavyweight card, but something tells me he will have a hard time against roy... he has all the talent in the world, but it seems to me lacks in-fight discipline and game plan...

PPS: the lightweight division is indeed the deepest of all, by far...
one fighter look forward to seeing more of is habib nurmagomedov, who'll be facing gleison tibau in a summer card. i think he has the tools to climb into the top 10 within a couple of years.

I didn't get that from palhares at all, he was going for those famous leg locks of his and belcher managed to slip out and land a big shot from the guard. I was dissapointed pat barry lost, his trouble as a striker has always been that his defence and footwork have never been great and big johnson has that ridiculous power to exploit that. You're right about johnson and his ground game a good wrestler or submission specialist could probably beat him as shown by his loss to shane del rosario but his power is so sick that he'll be a solid mid tier heavyweight. Nate diaz looked incredible in his win, his biggest enemy in the past has been wrestlers holding him down but his ground game is getting so good that people might not want to take him there and his stand up is great too. Him vs frankie or bendo would be amazing. Also i'm glad a ufc on fox show has finally delivered, hopefully the fox curse has ended.

Really solid show. I'd never seen Johnson fight before, good lord he was a manimal. Wished Barry could have gotten off a few more of those savage kicks, but oh well, congrats to Lavar. More impressed by Belcher than I was disappointed by Paulhares, like kinda taken off guard by what he showed in defense/scrambling and finishing. Palhares ate a real sick elbow whenever Belcher postured up and seemed out of it/unable to defend after it. Don't really care for much cheap shots on the mic after fights but whatever, I'll definitely have my eye on Belcher in the future. Johnny Hendricks has a really awesome striking style, going left and right, initiating things with that uppercut, and my favorite is how he doubles (and triples) up on those big overhands. Also, while he obviously throws a lot behind his punches, he manages to stay pretty contained and in good position to avoid getting caught. Not a Koscheck fan at all but he looked okay tonight, definitely landed some hard shots but did nowhere near the damage Hendricks did. Also pretty lackluster 3rd round when he should have been pressing to win. I expected the judges to give it to Kos just because I don't trust them at all, good to see Hendricks get the deserved decision. Can't say enough about Nate Diaz, he was on another level. I've gone from really disliking him to reluctantly respecting him, and I really enjoy those boxing skills. Big win for him, would love to see a Bendo fight. I love Edgar and am rooting for him to get the victory, but idk how well he'd fair against Nate, so yaaa.

Also, just saw Hendricks vs. Rory McDonald is scheduled for UFC 150. Should be an immense fight!

On that note how do you guys feel about the frankie/benson rematch? Their fight was great but i really don't want the rematch to happen yet, i'd prefer if they kept the lightweight division moving a bit more and let frankie win a fight or two before getting the rematch. The fight was close but i don't see how anyone could have frankie winning it, i didn't find it controversial enough to warrant an immediate rematch.

Yeah rory/hendricks is a great matchup, id have rory winning it but hendricks is as tough as the come. I'd have rory winning it by a decision.

i feel that frankie's fights will always be like that... extremely hard-fought close decisions that may or may not go his way against the most elite lightweights... he's smaller than everyone else but because he's also probably the toughest pound-for-pound fighter of all, he always manages to at least keeps it close...
yeah i don't like immediate rematches either (who does?), but there's no point fretting about it... if he wins against ben, great for him... if he loses, i think it's been decided that he's moving down to featherweight and immediately challenging for the title. him vs aldo would be every bit as awesome and competitive as anything, and for once he wouldn't give up a size edge. besides, lightweight division is super stacked, while the featherweight division is one of the most poor, so he would make a perfect addition.
