You don't think so? I've had countless discussions with people from all over Europe, Spain to Germany and nobody is fond of Italian football. They always try anyway they possibly can to diminish it, or talk bad about the Italian team in some way. This is a jealous inferiority complex at its finest. The fact that people have to constantly refer to them as cheats, girls, or boring, instead of actually trying to form a coherent opinion on their style only reinforces this fact. Like you said earlier, nobody likes Italians.
I haven't come across anyone who's disparaged Italian football much more than any other footballing nation. It tends to be individual players who are castigated for cheating in my experience. Players like Suarez and Christiano Ronaldo are castigated while Uruguay or Portugal aren't.
I also disagree that if people do call Italy cheaters it's out of some sense of inferiority. Italy may have won a lot in the past - and a World Cup recently - but they're far from the best team in Europe these days. Spain, Germany, Netherlands are all much better than them, and teams like England, Portugal, Russia etc are on a similar level.
Soccer is about the 4th most popular sport in Australia and has been a basket case in terms of organisation forever. Most of our best athletes play other sports. It's actually hilarious that we're already the best team in Asia
