I fully realise how good that film actually is (to other people who can appreciate this foul subgenre of horror), but I cannot stand watching films where teenagers unwittingly tumble into the lair of some blood thirsty maniac, only to have the third act of the film filled with moans of agony, screams for help, pleas for mercy and disturbing imagery only for the sake of terrifying the viewer. Fuck that shit. I can see why people like TCM, it really is one of the most unsettling movies of all time, but I entirely dislike watching this sort of film.

By the way, the fans of TCM might enjoy watching the Australian horror movie Wolf Creek and the Belgian horror movie Calvaire (The Ordeal). They are in the same vein as TCM and imo they are terrible.

Cabin in the Woods 8/10

A lot of very self-aware fun while also being a rather well paced horror film.

I would include A Tale of Two Sisters, Ring, One Missed Call, and for some reason, Inland Empire.

I think the American version of the The Ring is one of the few times where I vastly prefer it to the foreign original

Eh that on was kind of ruined for me because outside of the first scene I knew absolutely everything that was going to happen before it happened.

Give some examples of horror films you consider schlock? I want to know because "schlock horror" is also a subgenre of horror that led to the splatter and gore horror pictures. Once Upon a Time in the West - 9/10

I've never seen a Western that looked better (aside from McCabe), but then again, I'm a film n00b. The two-and-a-half hour running time seems a tad excessive, but the entire atmosphere it creates is just amazing. Needless to say, I enjoyed it a lot.

I liked it. It didn't blow me away, but I thought it was well done. I watched Dreyer's Vampyr recently too, and while they're very different movies, I encountered the same issue of not being very satisfied with the ending - or really the plot as a whole. Great images and a good handling of mood (more so in Vampyr, in my opinion), but not the most engaging plot, characters, or resolution.

i've always preferred vampyr to nosferatu, but then again I'm a Dreyer nigga. I think they are both completely visionary films. They do grow with time tho, like all great movies.
