Gran Torino's a racist pile of shit.

I agree with you guys about the acting being inconsistant, but how in the fuck is it racist? Just because the main character is both racist and sympathetic?

This reminds me of the idiots who complain about Archie Bunker becoming less of a caricature as All in the Family went on.

Not all racists are dark demonic figures made of bats for crying out loud. I can perfectly understand why both Eastwood's aesthetic style and view of the world can be very offputting for most people on this forum. But to me it's a really cheap move to just dismiss this movie as racist, hateful racism at that, rather than just unintentional racism.

Never mind this is the same guy who made a movie about Nelson Mandela, a man every white racist in America hates. He's an old American guy with a (moderately) conservative view on the world, he must be a racist piece of shit.

From now on I am only watching this movie.

Anything else would be a waste of time.

The Road - no stars

My God this was terrible, in pretty much every way. It's bad storytelling 101.

It's two and a half hours of some guy we know nothing about and some stupid kid we know nothing about, wondering around the woods and running into redneck cannibals every now and then, and then the father dies, that's it. This would be fine if they had actors with the talent who could carry a film with such an irredeemablky bad story, but instead they got Viggo Mortensen who everybody can agree is a terrible actor, and some effeminate faggy kid who just looks mopey and says "poppa" a lot. The kid is so annoying it makes me wonder why the dad didn't just blow the kid's brains out and make things easier for himself. The dialogue is really bad. Carry the fire?. Wtf is that bullshit?

The film looks terrible, like a big brown turd, and there's melodramatic piano music which is the only que there is for the audience to feel anything, there are some random flashbacks where Charlize Theron is being a bitch for no reason (like in every other movie she's ever been in) and then wonders off in the wilderness to die, so the message of the movie is that women are too emotional to handle the apocalypse, only manly men can survive. Misogynist jank.

Still, there's nothing you could do with material this bad. I'm now convinced that the only reason No Country For Old Men was good was because of the Coens and the actors involved, because Cormac McCarthy knows nothing about story structure.

This movie is so slowly paced, so needlessly depressing and soooooooooooo booooooooooooooooring. Even worse, there is no explanation AT ALL of how all this shit came to be, the characters are given no motivations, their actions never make sense (why did he make the black guy take his clothes off? WHY?), we don't even learn the character's names for crying out loud. And then there's that awful deus ex machina ending. Where did that family come from? Nothing is foreshadowed, just random bullshit happening. Which was also the only real problem with NCFOM.

I haven't read McCarthy's books but I now know for a fact he can't write. No wonder literary critics love him. This is pretentious dumb dumb dookey for pretentious dumb dumb dookeyheads. Watch Zombieland or play Fallout 3 instead.
