I just finished Season 4 and I'm amazed at how well made this show is. There are certainly some holes in the plot (or at least I think there are), but no other show has held my attention like this one has. It might be my favorite show ever.

I just finished season 3 and this is easily one of my favorite shows, better than Dexter and I'm a huge of that show. Show is so captivating, perpetually implementing intersting plot devices.

Yeah, Dexter was my favorite drama before I started this show. Not so much anymore.

Ugh the acting on this show is so hacky. I preferred when the bald guy was playing Malcolm's Dad on Malcolm.

This. I used to think it's because the quality of Dexter has dipped a lot in the past few years, but Breaking Bad is much better than the earlier seasons of Dexter too.

...because we're saying by contrast BB is a superior show? What's the issue?

The omelette du fromage episode is better than any episode Breaking Bad has ever had.

It's not just that BB is (MUCH MUCH MUCH) better. It's that they have no relationship to each other other than being one-hour cable dramas and thus there is very little basis for comparison. Mad Men is on the same network. The X-Files was where Vince Gilligan got his start. The Sopranos is a show about a bald criminal who grows progressively more sociopathic and selfish as the years roll on (the OPPOSITE of Dexter, let's say). There are clearly better analogues. But as far as quality goes, Dexter is a pulpy show on a soapy network with exactly one compelling character and it hasn't been good in the four years since they killed off the only other compelling character. Breaking Bad is one of the 3 or 4 best shows ever made with a cast full of exceptional characters and excellent actors, with tighter scriptwriting, the best cinematography in the history of the medium, etc. Different leagues.

 the comparison stemmed from Dexter being one of my favorite shows and breaking bad making it look like shit. Idk what you're on about.

I feel like Dexter is constantly mentioned in Breaking Bad discussion here, although perhaps it was on the old forum. Either way any talk of Dexter as an elite show annoys me. It's half a good character study and half the shittiest police procedural imaginable.
