Watched a few episodes, there is absolutely nothing good about this show.

There's absolutely nothing good about your life, either.

Also, if you haven't seen it already, check out Generation Kill. It's completely brilliant.

That's high on my list of to watch television. I think Twin Peaks is after my rewatch of the Wire though (I'm near the end of season 2).

Honestly, I'd probably put it up there with The Wire or close to.

Valchek has to be the biggest douchebag in the series.

Definitely. There's no greater sight than him being punched by Roland (can't be bothered spelling his last name).

I think you have to give most of those characters credit, dicks though they are, for being so good at gaming the system and entrenching themselves. That's what I love about the Wire - it's a show about smart people doing what they do with exceptional skill, whether for good or ill. (Maybe not Herc, but even he isn't so much stupid as simple-minded, rank-obsessed and accepting of drug war tactics/protocol). The lone exceptions IMO are the Sun editors in S5, as it's clear from jump that their buyouts and misplaced priorities are pretty much single-handedly killing the paper, and doing so - this is key - for no good reason. I think that's not a deliberate touch but a case of Simon's anger at his real-life editors trumping his commitment to covering every angle of the story, and I think it winds up as easily the biggest of the show's few flaws.

I'm sorry they canceled According to Jim, but that's no reason to troll the rest of us.

Holy crap, can't believe I forgot Templeton. Anyways, I'm not saying they are 'bad' characters. If I hate them, that pretty much means they are doing their job very well.
