Because Robert was a pretty incompetent king and Clinton was pretty competent.

That had nothing to do with the three comparisons made.

The general idea of even comparing them as characters is what throws it off. In other words the way in which they were compared doesn't really compare them in any meaningful way.

Yes but it isn't funny because the comparison is based on irrelevancy. The comparisons that are funny are not.

The comparisons made complete sense. It's still funny. Romney doesn't have an immense loyal following, Obama does not have a military background or a humorless disposition, Gingrich isn't a 14-year-old saddist, Santorum doesn't have charisma, Al Gore isn't a staunch family man with an unerring code of honor, Colbert doesn't come from a family of rich sociopaths nor is he trying to actively save a crumbling government and Paul is not a warmongering cunt who hates his son.
It's almost like that wasn't meant to be taken literally.

Um no shit. The Clinton comparison was still off and struck me as off (not as badly as Dani's but bad) and therefore I did not find it funny. Fuck man its my opinion on what's funny. Why are you so seriously bent on trying to prove that somethings funny? I think you're taking this way more seriously than me.

Because I do not see how it was "off". Previous ruler; fondness for women; "cold" blonde wife. Nothing controversial there.
For that matter, I don't see what's wrong with Palin's aside from the quip about her kids is a little harsh.

Because Sarah Palin and Dani share practically zero in common.

Aside from the three bullet points they used...
It is by far the weakest comparison though, I'd agree

I think their personalities being so different makes that one not work. For example Stannis isn't a flip flopper but his general coldness is a match for Romney. Dani seems to be exactly the opposite type of person as Palin.

so what did everyone think about the renly scene?

i was afraid it wouldn't translate well to television. some book-readers are saying it was bad, but non-book-readers seem to have liked it. it's hard to judge it when i knew what to expect.

It wasn't too different from how I imagined it.

I'm more intrigued by their choice to have Tywin take on Arya as his cup-bearer. I fear they're going to rush the events at Harrenhal, which are some of my favourite parts of the book.
