WES ANDERSON
(1969 - ), American

Image

"Few directors' films deserve the term "character-driven" more than Anderson's. His films are also casting-, music-, mood- and even production design-driven (he works with more or less the same key production personnel every time), but whatever powers their engines, action and plot are but trace elements in the fuel."
- The Rough Guide to Film

"King of literary geek chic on the silver screen, Wes Anderson emerged from the U.S. movie underground an almost ready-made savant. Remarkably quickly, his quirky, off-kilter films neatly established Anderson almost as a genre unto himself."
- Joshua Klein, 501 Movie Directors: A Comprehensive Guide to the Greatest Filmmakers

I was totally caught off-guard by Fantastic Mr Fox.

still have to see the bookends of his career so far, but the middle section i'd rank this:

1. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
2. The Royal Tenenbaums (spelled wrong in the OP btw)
3. Rushmore
4. The Darjeeling Limited

I couldn't stand Darjeeling, the whole thing felt like he was telling us "Yeah, I haven't evolved at all in my 10 years, sorry". I don't know why everyone disses Steve Zissou, I think it's his funniest (or at least second next to Rushmore) and one of the most visually stunning and original movies I've ever seen. People tend not to like it cause of how mean-spirited it is, but I never understood those criticisms, it doesn't matter what you say in your film, just as long as you know how to say it unlike anybody else has before.

Darjeeling isn't that bad I don't think, I'm not sure if he's made a really 'bad' movie yet.

Top three is probably FMF, Rushmore, and RT.

So apparently he's shooting parts of his next movie in my home state, specifically in South Kingstown and Middletown (which is the town next to mine). He's shooting part of the movie an elementary school down the road that closed a few years ago.

yo tm, you wanna elaborate a little bit more on the highish score you gave Moonrise Kingdom?
