Cruise and the mom are far more annoying than either of them imo.

then a personal taste criticism then. Annoying characters aren't really a real flaw of movies. (ie Hard Candy, preacher lady in the Mist, etc)

Agreed. At least to some extent.

Right but I think those characters in Hard Candy and The Mist add more to those films than the kids in War of the Worlds. Especially Chatwin, though. His whole "fuck you, Dad!" attitude got fucking old very quickly. I'm probably the only person here who wanted Robbie not to come back after he went over that hill. Dakota's acting was good as usual but the bitch would just not stop crying/screaming. I wanted Cruise to leave her in a car.

FYI I do not hate War of the Worlds. I think it's a lot of fun but those characters got on my nerves a lot.

I really don't get all the hate for Dakota's character, I think she's a very damn good child actress. Was her constant screaming hard to take? Yes it was. But she also perfectly captured how a real 10 year old kid would handle a situation like that.

Unless she's had one hell of a life, I don't think any little girl would react calm and rationally when the world is being invaded by 150 feet tall tripods whose favorite hobby is gardening and using human blood as fertilizer. Actually, would ANYBODY react calm and rationally to that? Seriously what did you fucking expect?

People always complain about the characters who freak out in these kinds of films, as if they would be fucking Solid Snake if confronted with such a scenario themselves.

Oh I know, audiences tend to hate characters who share those kind of traits with them, just because they don't want to be reminded.

Good man. I really like that movie, both on Hanks and DiCaprio's part.
