also, i definitely am going to include the TV work eventually. it definitely is noticeable here as a majority of his best work has been on TV instead of film, other than his Shakespeare adaptations of course.

Not that I recall. As I remember there's only three people in the whole damn movie, Law, Caine and the news caster who's on the TV for 10 seconds.

been watching some of his work in my Shakespeare adaptation class and have really been enjoying his acting as well as his directing. I admire actors who both can sell comedy as well as drama.

yay!!! what all have you watched? my favorite thing about his Shakespeare adaptations are that they are incredibly visceral and lively and his casts are all over the place. my personal favorite is Billy Crystal as the Gravedigger in Hamlet (one of my favorite roles done perfectly). there are certainly some misses in his casting history (Keanu, Lemmon, etc), but most of them have been great. and yeah what makes him really great is combining his sense of humor with the madness/eccentricity of his characters.

his Hamlet is the reason i got into theatre to begin with.

I really wanted to have Much Ado for my production history assignment for the sole reason of having an excuse to get Branagh's on DVD, but alas, I'll have to make due with King Lear.

Lear? have you seen Sir Ian's performance? i believe its on Netflix (maybe... don't quote me on that though). if not, i'm sure you can find it online somewhere.

also i highly recommend season 3 of Slings & Arrows, which focuses on Lear with an A++++ performance by William Hutt (one of the few chances to really see him, since he didn't do a ton of tv/film). you don't really have to see the first two seasons to watch season 3, although it may help to know the main character. all 3 seasons are great and again i believe they are on Netflix instant right now (i should check before i say that, but i'm lazy).

I have not in fact seen Sir Ian, which I am looking forward to doing. Too bad Brannagh never did a Lear.
