I really liked his role in the Departed though, definitely worthy of second tier.

Yeah I'm gonna say Ledger's was better.
Nicholson's was very good, but Ledger's was just pure excellence.

The only thing Heath Ledger's Joker has over Jack's is a more disturbed countenance.

And a more in-depth characterization and powerful performance and not being a Jack Nicholson role.
