.... not to keep beating the same drum but from a composition point of view tied into great playing ... this tune offers a haunting hurdy gurdy by Blackmore on the opening notes with acoustic guitar and then to electric guitar and a use of the slide within the Blackmore snake charmer scale producing a wonderful vibrato ...... and again a great solo as well ... and rips it again into the closing ... Take care

The Storm is beyond addictive :banghead:

I still listen to his live version of Greensleeves/Bach Brandenburg concerto with Rainbow (1976?) every now and then. I wonder if any other guitarist in his department of music came up with anything like that at that time. Blackmore is a pure fucking genius!

R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio

Likewise....wishing you and your family all the good stuff over the holidays and throughout the new year.... :tiphat:

But anyhow, I was catching up on some of the threads and was wondering if you didn't happen to hack into clashwho's account and post the following?:

According to the RIAA, perhaps, but RIAA certifications are problematic. Much of that data is incomplete and the RIAA doesn't even bother with certifications unless a record label asks for it. The charts are a much more complete set of data, so that's what we use. By that data, Elton John and Led Zeppelin are very close in albums for the seventies, while Elton John trounces Led Zeppelin on the singles chart. :what?:

Gminer, as one of the biggest Blackmore-fans in the forum, what would be your top 10 guitar solo-list by him? (Including both live and studio performances)

Your lists were really great! I'd probably agree with all of your live-picks, though I'd include "Highway Star" (It is really overplayed song but it still gets me!) and probably "Gates of Babylon" in my list, those two are great.

By the way Gminer, here are two of my favourite Rainbow-covers ever made, these guys totally nail the feeling and the notes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rfrFs4kS7M
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3eFSWO9PoU

The guitarist (Anssi Kela) nails pretty much all of the parts by Blackmore, and the other instrumentalists do really great job too. The vocalist doesn't get into Dio's level (obviously!) but he is still really skilled vocalist who actually sounds a bit like Bruce Dickinson. I apologize for the 'quiet sound' but the quality of the performances themselves is astounding! I hope you like those links. :parrot:
