I'm argentinian, but come on man. We must accept the fact that this is a yank forum, and the official language is the English.

Why are you even bringing classic rock into this? I mentioned Smoke On The Water and Sunshine Of Your Love because they've been released for over 40 years and are probably more recognizable to probably everybody than Man In The Box is. I didn't mention those songs just because they're "classic rock" tunes; I mentioned them because they're classics in general and from the moment they start are possibly the most identifiable rock songs, regardless of era, ever. I think we've veered greatly off topic here. This is about Great Guitar Performances, not the Classic Rock Songs 101. Man In The Box and JCP aren't anything special from a guitar standpoint and this list in general is shite. Purple Rain at #27? Are you taking the piss? I realize this list is a work in progress but the fact that you put Purple Rain ahead of Achilles Last Stand, BayPineapple, does not bode well for you.

I do realize that Purple Rain is high, however I am not getting help from anyone. I am barely getting any suggestions and even when people are they are not telling me where to place that song. Also, this is a rough, rough, rough, rough, rough draft. By the end of it all, Purple Rain probably won't even be on the list.

Also, the top 20 is fine but after that it is kind of random. I am going to just leave my Top 20 up and see where we go from there.

im a huge Nirvana/Cobain fan, but im trying to figure out this. im assuming the placements with these three are largely based on their extremely identifiable/popular riffs and being among the first songs most guitar players learn not only because of the simplicity but also the bad-ass-ity of them. which is understandable, except if thats the case then why SMTS in the top 10 while Smoke On the Water sits down at 18 despite being the more popular riff (which we established as the main reason for them being here).

I'll switch the two then

I'd have All Along The Watchtower up closer to Voodoo Child, I think they're pretty comparable in importance. In addition to great playing, AATW was groundbreaking from a production standpoint too, and the idea of breaking a solo down into 3 different sections was new too.

Also, I agree it deserves a place but I think Sultans of Swing shouldn't be in the discussion for the top 20, it just doesn't hold the impact.

True, but it matches up pretty well in all the other criteria. I'll keep it there for now, but it will move down later when I get some help with the list.

AATW is great, but Voodoo Child blows is much better IMO. It had a huge impact on the wah-wah pedal, had a great riff, great solo, was very original and creative. I'm not saying AATW wasn't, but Voodoo Child beats in all of the criteria. However, I will probably move AATW higher. Also, studio techniques are not a part of the criteria, unless it should be (though I think it shouldn't)

Also, here is what Joe Satriani said about it
"It's just the greatest piece of electric guitar work ever recorded. In fact, the whole song could be considered the holy grail of guitar expression and technique. It is a beacon of humanity."

Yeah I'm fine with Voodoo Child being higher. I don't agree that it wins creativity, I think AATW takes that criterion and Voodoo might have the rest. And if you want to talk about memorable riffs and solos, they're pretty much even, and AATW is clearly the "greater" solo. It went in an entirely new direction than what had been heard, while Voodoo Child continued on the "louder, heavier" trend, though it did so in an Earth shattering way.

If we're quoting, here's Einstein: "Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex... It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction."

(Obviously Einstein didn't play guitar, but neither quote should really matter in terms of making the list.)
