I think the criteria from the old list is better. Maybe just do away with showcase of talent because its vague and subjective.

Well that and the showcase of talent is covered by the other criteria, so it's redundant having it as a separate one.

I'd like to suggest Rust In Peace for the list, and Dragon Mistress. Friedman is such a beast :metal:

I dont think technicality should really matter at all. I mean, AYE was hardly technical and its the greatest guitar album ever.

Imo, it should be influence, originality, acclaim.

I felt this list needed to be redone. We can all work on this collectively, 5 or 10 at a time.

To make this much easier, this is rock ONLY, so no blues or fusion albums.

Criteria:
Influence, originality, acclaim

1. Are You Experienced? (Jimi Hendrix)
2. Van Halen (Eddie Van Halen)
3. Led Zeppelin II (Jimmy Page)
4. Blow By Blow (Jeff Beck)
5. Layla (Eric Clapton/Duane Allman)

Anyone agree?

Truth is greater than Blow by Blow.

Showcase of guitarist's talent could work instead, it was part of the original criteria.

BBB is much more original, and it's JB's most acclaimed album. Not to mention a landmark for instrumental guitar music.

Influence, originality, acclaim, display of talent?

One thing that worries me is determining which albums are most acclaimed for their guitar. Once we get further from the top it'll be tough to say I think.

So you dont think acclaim should be part of it?

No, not really. As I said, I think the criteria from before is pretty good. But you're the one redoing the list, so its up to you. I'll just go along with whatever criteria is decided upon.

Influence, originality, acclaim.

Everyone agree with that initial top 5 at the top?

I wouldn't say it's much more original. After all, Truth was pre-Zeppelin, while there were many great fusion albums released before Blow by Blow. It's not as solid as an album, but it and Blow by Blow are no doubt close in terms of greatness, at least from my point of view.
