Attitude ? gilmour ?

I agree with Yousha, that there is hardly a guitarist with less 'Attitude' than Gilmour.

This really depends on what the word attitude means to you. If you immediately think of the stereotypical, rebellious rock 'n' roll attitude his choice does seem strange. I, and I'm assuming jfauser, took it to mean the musicians approach to their instrument generally. I picked Eric Johnson for this reason, as I feel his dedication, perfectionism and modesty to be far more appealing in a guitarist than the over-the-top, theatrical personae many players adopt.

Actually, I got that after I posted it. Very valid, and of course it's how one takes the meaning of attitude.

Cobain is THE first guitarist I think of when it comes to attitude.

To quote one reviewer who saw Nirvana live in the early days:
"He wields a riff with such passion".

Well I was thinking of attitude as putting feeling into the playing, whether it be anger, a bit sad, joyful.

Cobain is a good one for that. The man does like his punk rock.

And yes Eddie plays fast without going overboard with it. I also choose him for the pioneering part of it.

I don't think Eddie really pioneered speed playing in the way that someone like Malmsteen did.

I usually think of Blackmore sometimes as a pioneer to playing fast in rock music......

Blackmore and Uli John Roth totally were the first to start playing faster guitar. Eddie made a pretty huge splash though when he came along. He is third on the list.

Can't forget Mr. Alvin Lee either.

What Eddie did that was so great wasn't necessarily his speed, but more his overall attitude, his sound. It sounded fresh.

Heard good things about Schenker although I haven't checked too much of his stuff out. Heard he played a song called "Lipstick Traces" with his feet.

this would be Schenker...solo at the 2 minute mark if you wanna skip to it....and then at 3:40 till the end, it's gotta be among my favorite hard rock songs for the guitar ever....
