Thread dedicated dedicated to Rory Gallagher, who has imo a unique style of playing the blues and rock.

He's a great player but I really can't get into him all that much. He just seems like a 2nd rate Johnny Winter to me...with an even cheesier voice.

Guy can play though, obviously.

No, but I've heard about it plenty. What should I listen to?

Cheers, Nick (: And thanks for the link, friend. Only relatively recently got turned onto Rory, but been obsessed ever since. Can't get enough of that live stuff.

I'm not an expert on the live stuff. Anything to recommend beyond Irish Tour?

Always been very taken with this studio effort:

Hope you've been keeping well, old friend.

Thanks for the stuff guys. I Fall Apart is one I've heard before and really enjoy. Hadn't come across Crest of a Wave yet but that shit was hot fire, legit blistering. Tbh Nick Irish 74 is the only live stuff I'm really familiar with (you like the song Back On My Stompin Ground? Probably my #1.). Otherwise it's just me clicking on youtube vids of random live performances of my favorite studio songs. Most of it is straight up great. Really love a lot of his studio work too. He has such a full, heavy sound. But untainted. Props to his bassist too.

low-key jazzy bit here, from his early days with Taste.

summat heavy sound i was talking about. you can't turn this shit up loud enough.

dude is obviously an amazing guitarist, unmatched passion and feel, but his songwriting in general is a big part of what makes him so listenable for me.

Because Peter Green is just about my favourite of them all and this is just a brilliant reading. And singled out by Green as the best thing on a tribute album for him.

Walk On Hot Coals, A Million Miles Away, Tattoo'd Lady & As The Crow Flies are easily my favourites from that album. Will give Stompin Ground a relisten. The quartet I mentioned are the absolute business.
