Ya just gotta ignore him, I'm telling ya. Otherwise you'll get caught up in pointless bickering and deviating away from music.

Cream is proto-metal.

So's Elvis Presley. What's your point?

Yes but Clapton is, or never was at any point, a metal guitarist. His contributions to metal are minimal.
He was playing loud and experimenting with volume, but his notes were blues-rock all the way.

The Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame's video montage on the roots of heavy metal focusses on three guitarists: Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix.

Not really. I mean, Clapton's work with Cream was a big reason why metal started existing in the first place. It's not a world of difference between the massive "Sunshine of Your Love" riff and stuff like "N.I.B.", for example. I also don't think that a song like "Tales of Brave Ulysses" needs a lot of reworking to become a massive metal epic.

But influencing and inspiring metal, and actually being a metal musician, those are of course two different things. But we all know that. Well, most of us.

Yngtchie nails it.
