It must have been 2004 or 2005 the 1st time and no more than 120 people there. I'd only heard about Joe through talking to Walter Trout after a show. He blew my socks off. He was more aggressive and played faster (was overweight and had long hair as well).

The following year he played a bigger venue in the same town and this time we couldnt get in as it was a sellout and we hadnt pre-bought tickets. Didnt think we would need to. 150 miles travelling for nothing. We caught him later on elsewhere though.

He has never disappointed so far. His band are 1st rate, you always get 2 hours or more and he pours his heart into it.

He cancelled a show in Manchester once due to Illness (another 200 miles travelling wasted) and he flew to the UK and back from Spain on a single day off later in the tour just to play a rescheduled show and not let his fans down.

And of course, the BCC show was brilliant as well.

His status is already unbelievably high for a solo blues/rock guitar player in this day and age, but he just keeps on delievring album after album of quality material and super live shows. I guess it must plateau sometime, but he just keeps on rolling ...

Going to see Joe Bonamassa tonight - Reviews of this short UK tour have been amazing- cant wait !!!

Bernie Marsden and Sandi Thom have made some guest appearances, so that will be neat if it happens

So what would be the best album from this young man?

Difficult to say - it depends on your taste and he's been pretty prolific. Averages a solo album every year plus the Black Country Communion albums and his duets with Beth Hart.

Joe'e earlier albums were more aggressive and Joe probably played harder and faster. The later albums show smoother, cleaner playing.

As a cross section, I would suggest the latest release 'Driving Towards the Daylight, then Sloe Gin. From earlier, try 'You and Me' and then you cant go wrong with any of the live albums, 'Live from Nowhere in Particular' or 'At the Albert Hall'.

If you like 'classic rock', then The Black Country Communion albums BCC1, BCC2 or Afterglow all contain great stuff.

I'll tell you what. Joe's current acoustic set kicks all kinds of ass.

Picked up a copy of the Live at Royal Albert Hall 2 CD set at the thrift store for a dollar. Totally worth it, as the sleeve and CD1 is autographed by Joe.
The music is also top notch performance. Especially like Joe's version of "Just Got Paid" ZZ Top cover. :thumb:
