agreed... but Gary Moore is still a great live player ... everyone has their bad days .... you cant tell me an improvised solo like this isnt good live playing ....

Yousha

Ive posted on this topic before as well and the clue to the clip you posted is the date.

I dont want to speak ill of the dead but, as a live musician, Gary was much better suited to the rock stage. The lights, costumes, smoke, fireworks and frontmen like Lynott etc all helped him. I thought he was just brilliant at this time.

As a 'so called' blues musician, he played to smaller crowds in smaller venues. I saw him a couple of times during this era and, like Rusty said, it was pretty poor. Even to the point of people walking out in droves. I couldnt say that he hit bum notes or anything, just that he came on, played and went off. No real interaction on prescence or contact with his audience.

I like White Stripes a great deal, made a 2 CD compilation of favourites for the car. However, I wouldnt put Jack White in the top 100 of this list, if top 100 would have existed. Pretty much every guitar player in any decent rock band from the 60's or 70's is a better live player.

But this is not about being better, this is about being great.

20 is too low for Gary Moore

It's too high. I still have nightmares about the time I saw him 3 nights in a row. And after that I make sure all my friends know buying me surprise concert tickets is OFF LIMITS. Then again its my fault for being such a nice guy and going to the other two gigs when the first one was crap. Gary Moore is overrated as hell and he doesnt belong in the top 30 in the live list. Beck is a better live player as are all above Moore now. Then there's Zappa who I know he is mostly labeled as fusion, but he was also rock and deserve a place in the top 20. Hell I would even put Knopfler and Gibbons above Moore in a live list, in a heartbeat.

Agree with regards to Zappa and Knopfler.

:freak: Ooook then, Jack White is not great live.

Me, dammit.
I've always said Screwdriver is one of the most kick-ass riffs ever, and the solo in Black Math is very clever.

Sorry, I forgot about you. Do you think that White is worthy of a top 25 on this list?

I doubt it. There are just too many more deserving names. Guys with better improv, more consistency, more of a reputation as a live player, etc.

I totally agree here, how do you all see him vs Gilmour?
To me could be something like this:

-Improvisation - Knopfler
-Stage Presence - Tie
-Consistency - Tie
-Reputation as a Live Player -Gilmour?

Sorry, I break out in hives and reflexively post that clip whenever someone suggests Page over Townshend on a greatest live rock guitarists list.
