Post and discuss your favorite guitar solos, guitar songs, guitar albums, guitar riffs, and any other lists regarding guitar music!

I shall update it for everyone as a catalogue, in the same way as the favorite guitarists thread.

Post away!

Cool, George! Didn't realise you liked Bridge of Sighs so much - unusual to see a Trower album there but no Hendrix. The disciple but not the leader? I like that album very much myself.
What is Byblos - Chicago?

Annoying cliches
-Slow = with feeling, fast = unemotional display of technique. The first is a false equivalence, the second is just plain false most of the time.
-So and so invented/was the first to do this or that, ie. who first used feedback, or somebody used two-handed tapping before EVH. Interesting historic footnotes, but rarely anything more.
-He just plays scales - accomplished musicians don't just play scales
-He only plays pentatonic - it can be a valid critique of one's versatility, not generally applicable to the quality of one's work. There's a lot of great music in those 5 notes. (I fall into a similar trap myself when I talk about Clapton. I criticize him for rarely venturing outside of a narrow safety zone. For that reason, I rank him somewhere between 8 and 15 on my personal list, but I shouldn't underrate what he's done within his zone.)
-80's guitarists suck. Hey, I'm no big fan of Poison and their ilk, but some of these guys could play, let's not dismiss them out of hand, give them their due credit... On the other hand, screw those guys.

Yeah, I agree with those cliches. It annoys the hell out of me when I read something about "HE ONLY PLAYS SCALES".

A list of Guitar related wishes !!

I would like to have seen Ritchie and Ronnie just one more time (RIP)

I wish Def Leppard had folded after one album (or maybe no albums)

I wish the enormously talented Viv Campbell would grow some balls and stop taking the Def Leppard paycheck playing rhythm to the much less talented Phil Collen (maybe his gig with the new Thin Lizzy may help)

I wish I'd taken the time to see the Who live years earlier. Townshend is a masterful and charasmatic performer

The only guitarists that I wish I'd seen that I haven't are Jimi and Ry Cooder

I wish the sublime Jan Akkerman had toured more after Focus and that he would get the recognition he deserves

I wish I could get into Pat Metheny

I wish that more people realised that George Benson is not just a soul singer, but one of the all-time greats of Jazz Guitar

I wish Guthrie would record a 2nd album

I wish the gift of Wisdom on those millions of deluded teenagers who think that Kirk Hammet is the greatest guitarist to ever pick up the instrument. (Slash fanboys can get in the same queue)

I wish I hadnt stood so close to the speakers in that small venue in manchester in 76 (I think) when AC/DC first came to the UK. I couldnt hear for 2 days and I still blame my Tinnitus on that gig.

I wish I understood more of Allan Holdsworths work - Love his stint with Tony Phillips etc, but most of it goes right over my head.

I wish I hadnt seen Clapton last year - It put a bit of a dent in some great memories

I wish Michael Angelo Batio was not ambidextrous or only had one hand

Tx SC - Appreciate that

I have bought several Metheny CD's because I feel I ought to like him, but I just dont. However, I will give that album a listen on Napster and let you know what I think
