It is yes. Though IMO the best thing about it are Bonham and Plant. 69-71 Plant is great. After that, meh. Dont know why.

I am still convinced that Jimmy's playing on The Song Remains The Same is the best playing of his career.
Absolutely some of the most awesome leads ever captured on record. We always mention "No Quarter", but truthfully "Dazed And Confused" is the ultimate Jimmy Page guitar performance. Seriously, compare this to Jimmy's '68-'71 playing, there's a noticeable difference. Here in the 73 performance, he is sharper, more focused, less sloppy, more on target...with some phenomenal improvised licks throughout the song, all 27 minutes of it.

I gotta go with '68/'69 easily.

68/69 Page was more distorted and primal. By 73 he was cleaner and didnt have to resort to constant finger-twiddling.
Not that I don't love his 68/69 playing as well. But by the time of those MSG concerts, he had improved.

What do you think of How The West Was Won?

I prefer it over TSRTS. Less meandering, and Plant sounds better. I much prefer Page and Plant sounding more focused, their jamming never thrilled me the way Cream or Purple does.

Would you agree with "No Quarter" being his best recorded solo?

Live of course.

His phrasing was never that good before or since.
