I think that was just for the greatest rock guitarist list.

The huge problem with this forum is that most posters can appreciate equally both lists.

How is this a problem?

It is a HUGE problem. A new reader of the list could think that rock guitar has been dead for +20 years. That is not true. For example, IMO 90´s rock guitar is A LOT better than 80´s rock guitar.

Well, it's a Favorite Guitarists Directory topic. That kind of gives it away, doesn't it? Every poster posts THEIR favorite guitar players. So how can that be a problem? Just because most posters here don't share your guitar oriented beliefs doesn't mean that this is wrong. Further more, im sure each poster here has their own criteria of what they like and how they rate their guitar players according to that. And its really none of your concern as to what these individual criterias are, but just to explain, for example, my favorite area of guitar is lead guitar. Electric lead guitar mostly. And I rate MY favorite guitar players by how much I love their lead playing (live playing plays a big part here too) and how much they either inspire or influence (or both) me in my own playing. Of course I also love guitar driven music and songwriting/riffs and that plays a part too but only if the lead part is also there to some extent. But there are also some players I simply enjoy listening to or have had an impact on me in some part of my life. Though, the fact my list doesn't have White or Frusciante for example, doesn't mean I don't like or appreciate WS or RHCP. I like both quite a lot. But I wont put either of those players in my favorites because they just don't cut it compared to everyone else. I like a great number of bands from 60's to today. If I put each guitarist of the bands I like in my list I would have 150 of them. But 120 of them would nothing for me looking at them individually. And thus my list of favorites. This is one story of one individual, in this case, me. There is one for each poster who posted their favorites I am sure. So, I ask, who are you to come here, where people post their personal favorites, and give lectures on what you think is right or how you think it should be?

As for rock guitar being dead for 20+ years...well, by my criteria, it mostly is, compared to 60's and 70's for sure. And you are wrong about the 90's and 80's rock guitar too.

Of course you can like whoever you want. My comment was more related to the Greatest Rock Guitarist list. I think is a huge problem when you want to make a list of greatest rock guitarists and the people who decide the places think that rock guitar has been dead for 20+ years. In fact, my whole argument has been based on refuting the main statement of that list: Rock driven guitar is dead.

That is not true. I think that the greatest rock guitarist list should commit to prove that rock guitar is not dead. Maybe right now we don´t have as many great rock guitarists as in the 60´s but I think that this is not about quantity, this is about quality and during the 90´s and 00´s we have had guitarists that can match in terms of greatness almost anybody.

How can you make this statement? When you are the only one making this statement on this Forum.

Do you realize...

No one involved in this list has ever made that statement ... or as far as I can tell, no one believes that statement you have made to be true.

You have made that statement and only you ... then ... it is you that addresses the statement you have made as not being true.

So in actual fact .... What you are stating, is that what you have said is not true ... and you are going to do your best to prove the statement, only you have made ... is not true ....

Would that be correct or incorrect? ..... Take care

To me actions speaks louder than words. If there is almost no guitarists from the 90´s and 00´s in the top 100, to me that means that for the list rock guitar is dead and has been for almost two decades.

No it just means there's almost 100 more greater guitar players from before the '90s. That doesnt mean rock guitar is dead for the past two decades, it only means the most important and best that it has to offer happened before YOUR time. Jeez dude, gminer nailed it, you need to get your act together. Maybe you and taro could go on a beer or two and help each other out.

Maybe. You just need to prove how each and every guitarist in the top 100 is GREATER than, for example, Cobain.

Look, maybe all of this is a HUGE misunderstanding. Maybe I am wrong and all of you believe that rock guitar is alive and that the great guitarists of the 90´s and 00´s are at least as great as the ones from the 80´s. If that is true, all I am asking is to reflect that on the list and add Frusciante, White, Cobain, Radiohead and Pearl Jam into the top 100. Is that to much to ask?

What? To tell you the truth that is my ultimate goal: Beck = Cobain. I know it will take a lot of time but I truly think that is the right path for the list.

I was about to go crazy on Echoes about that comment but hey, personal tastes are personal. Can't argue with that.

As you can see, you have stated what your whole argument is in the above quote .... and we all know, including yourself, the main statement of that list (the greatest rock guitarist list) is not " Rock driven guitar is dead.

So what you have been doing, by refuting as the main statement of that list.... is, in actual, you have been refuting your statement as being untrue .... and you have proven over and over again that your statement is untrue .... Take care
