I'm assuming that he'd wind up somewhere in the lower reaches but I really think he belongs. He's very innovative and though his style of playing isn't a huge niche in the guitar world, I feel it was an important milestone in the evolution of alternative music. I feel that he's a very unique and creative player and obviously his compositional skill is through the roof. I would understand however if the fact that he doesn't even play all the guitar parts that make his music so great was something that kept him off the list.

Spent last couple of days listening to the new Pat Metheny Unity Band album and guess what - I love it !!

This is a big leap for me as I normally dont get Metheny.

It helps that the joint soloist is Chris Potter (Sax/Clarinet) who played that remarkable solo on Steely Dans 'West Of Hollywood' - Not a guitar solo, but awesome all the same.

i can't view any media clips for now, so i'll have to remind myself to check it out later... but you guys should keep giving metheny opportunities.... there is literally no musician i love more than pat... it took me a bit to get him too, but he just keeps growing and growing on me and i feel that i've only scratched the surface of what he's done... "as witchita falls..." was my latest love, totally unlike anything else pat's done (though it's ever bit as much lyle's album)

Everyone seems to rate the album he did with charlie hayden - Its call 'missouri sky' or something like that. I thought it was very well played (as it would be), but kinda low key and a little dull.
