A small number of Romero traditionalists, maybe. It's impact, influence, critical acclaim etc easily make it one of the greatest horror films of the last decade.

wait wut? 28DL is one long love letter to Romero. How the fuck can they not love it? Only thing I can think of is perhaps because now everyone is satisfied with 28DL and ppl give credit to Boyle for doing what Romero already did twenty years before.

Still that's a fucking gay ass reason. 28DL is awesome.

Because it's not a zombie film, man. Zombies don't run.

No love for Last House On The Left? The Serpent And The Rainbow?
Also, have you seen The Exorcist III? I know part II sucked, but George C. Scott and Brad Dourif give incredible performances in part III.

Have to agree with you on Suspiria and Mask Of Satan though. Both personal faves of mine.

My own personal top 10 (could never make a top 100...too tedious)...

1. A Nightmare On Elm Street (still think it's the greatest of all time in terms of scare tactics)
2. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
3. The Exorcist
4. Last House On The Left
5. The Exorcist III
6. Suspiria
7. Black Sunday
8. Carrie
9. The Omen
10. Friday The 13th Part 3 (yeah I know, but it has to be here for nostalgic reasons)

No, I hate Last House on the Left. Worst home invasion movie I've seen.

I've heard good things about The Exorcist III, but I stay away from horror sequels as long as I can. Until I've seen all the classic horror movies I can think of and the not-so-famous ones that intrigue me, I will not watch sequels. There are exceptions of course (can't wait to check out Bride of Re-Animator for instance), but for the most part, that's the rule. Will check out Serpent And The Rainbow for sure, that looks pretty cool. Also, I so wanna see that movie Possession, with Sam Neill? I hear it's off the hook. Anyone seen that yet?

Not a fan of shock tactics?
I LOVED it, I think the low-budget vibe kinda made it much more realistic and chilling. Plus you gotta admit, it was ground-breaking stuff for being released in 1972.

I think you should abandon your "no sequels" rule because it's limiting, and you're missing out on a lot of great films...imo.

It's only a rule I have atm, I will most definitely abandon it soon enough, once I'm satisfied with the amount of horror films I've seen.

I have nothing against shock tactics, but I do have something against films that draw their strength and appeal through captivity, torture, humiliation and power games. For this reason I also really hate movies like Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Calvaire, Wolf Creek and then also films that are obviously even worse like Saw and perhaps some others I've been lucky enough to forget. I don't like watching that kinda stuff and even though I try not to hold anything against those films (especially TCM which I really don't like but I must admit that it is one helluva powerful movie), I can't help but dislike 'em entirely once I've watched them.

Well it's all personal interpretation I guess. I agree with you on Saw, though, I think that's one of the most overrated horror films ever made.

Speaking of overrated, I've always thought The Hills Have Eyes kinda sucked...

I also dont really care for films that use extreme violence to make their point (like Hostel). But movies like Last House and Texas Chainsaw were about more than that, imo. Personally, I look at them in the context of when they were made (early 70's), and it just amazes me even more. There was absolutely NOTHING like Last House On The Left when it came out. Remember, this was one year before The Exorcist was stirring up controversy...

In what sense? I ask because films like Witchfinder General were revenge stories every bit as brutal as LHotL.

I meant the way in which Craven explored the concept of torture, and didn't hold anything back. The collective reaction to that film was appaling, hence the classic "Keep telling yourself - it's just a movie" schtick.

Haven't seen Witchfinder General though, is that an American film?

It's British. Vincent Price is in it.
