I see you say "cheesy" as a criticism to horror quite a bit, Neg and I have to say I don't really get it.

Horror is a genre which in its roots is a high camp artform. Most horror films are camp, kitschy or "cheesy".

Cheesy, camp and kitsch are all just artistic styles and should never be used as adjectives for criticism (of course a film can be cheesy in a bad way, but films can also be surreal in a bad way too, doesn't mean surreal should be used as an outright critical word, just a style).

^ This.

My bad.
Does this mean you haven't seen the original Exorcist?

Here's a random comment: Goblin's music for Suspiria was used in one of the trailers for last year's Jane Eyre.

Curious what horror fans think of James Rolfe's view of the greatest Universal monsters:

Yeah, the great thing about the Danny/twin girls thing for me is that Kubrick works with abrupt cuts. He doesn't gradually reveal the bloody aftermath, it's there immediately and then it's gone just as quickly as it appeared.

That's because if you're allowed to look at the image for too long, you'd realize that the girls are completely intact.

Why is Hellraiser not one of the 100 greatest horror films?

Because it's not that great.
The only saving grace was that really hot girl whose name escapes me at the moment...

Pinhead was indeed an appropriate name for the character....

Give me Wes Craven or Tobe Hooper any day of the week.

Hellraiser's alright, I just think it pales in comparison to most of the other great horror films from that era.

Agree with ClashWho. Hellraiser definitely is essential on a 100 horrors list.

And Hellraiser > most of what Craven and Hooper have done imo.

Hellraiser and it's immediate sequel are some of the only films that have done what horror promises: horrified me.

To each his own, I guess. It found it more cliche and pretentious than "horrifying"...
Trippy and interesting, but far from what I would call truly scary.

Well, Hellraiser 2 was awful but the first one is legit. One of the greats.
