Also here's another one for Bones and Dreww regarding Boyhood from Variety

"This is the first time since 2007 that no film up for the top prize has collected $100 million domestically by the time nominations were announced."

Lubezski is a lock for cinematography. Haven't seen a category that one-sided since Avatar getting nominated for best VFX.

Yeah I thought Mr. Turner's cinematography blows every movie nominated away. I haven't seen Unbroken or Ida. But I did see some still frames for the latter and it's got a hefty dose of Tom Hooper staging.

Lol not really. Tom Hooper does some crazy neo-baroque shit with his frames and there seems to be no method whatsoever to his choices of camera, lenses and mise-en-scene. It is all very bizarre and incomprehensible and this fascinates me, even though most of the time I don't like. It got me through Les Miserables, which I thought was one of the most terrible Oscar movies of the last ten years or so.
Ida also has some unusual frames, but they are way more meticulously composed than Hooper's seem to be. Also, they fall into an easy arthouse pattern that, if you've seen some Eastern European arthouse films, which you surely have, is very easy to comprehend. Ida is a good film, pretty to look at and accessible in its themes, but all just a little too simplistic imo. Could've done with a smarter screenplay.

New rule: No more saying so-and-so was "snubbed" unless it's accompanied by saying who got the undeserved nomination.

Not that anyone here has done that, I'm just sick of reading it everywhere else.

I think Eddie Redmayne probably got the undeserved nomination not because I think it's a bad performance (haven't seen the film yet), but because I just cannot believe an average actor like him is capable of besting the performance of Fiennes' career.

Fiennes was great but come on, Michael Keaton was the best performance by far. Stop shitting on Michael Keaton Brien #bones

Same here. It takes a lot for me to watch biopics about scientists -- I disliked A Beautiful Mind, so I'm pretty much screwed when it comes to liking this subgenre

I really want to see The Imitation Game because I've always been interested in Turing, but The Theory of Everything is a film in which I have no interest at all.

I don't mind when they say one person/film was snubbed without saying who didn't belong. But I've seen articles where they list, like, three snubs per category. You KNOW that if those had been nominating, they'd just be listing the ones that got dropped.
