like all four. but Jailhouse ftw and so Elvis ftw here. the first 20 seconds <3. then again, i'm always a sucker for that type of build-up where the chords hang while the vocals soar over it.

i think the problem with elvis for me is that his songs are so ingrained in popular culture that they have become pretty banal and tiresome. And it's hard to shake that off with him as opposed to the Beatles who are also deeply rooted within everything that came after them, but their innovation makes very established music fans still want to go back and explore their catalog. Talent is talent and Elvis was a great singer/performer, but when I play the songs back in my head, I'm like, man that shit's gay as fuck now.

You should check out the songs he cut for Sun. They haven't been played to death like the RCA/Victor material.

Innovation itself is a very broad term and it's hard to say if the Beatles really did 'innovate' anything, at least by themselves. Most of the things they're credited for innovating, they actually didn't.

And I don't know what Elvis stuff you're listening to that would make you think it's "gay as fuck", unless you're talking about his movie soundtracks of the 60's.... :lol:

Both the resulting albums were absolutely sensational.
From Elvis In Memphis is hailed by some as his very best studio album.

Tougher than the other round. "Jailhouse Rock" is fabulous, but so is "Well All Right". The other two are great songs but not ones I love personally, if that makes sense. Narrow edge to Charles.

Yeah I think this is a much better match. None of that Can't Help Falling In Love schlock.
Going Presley, but by the smallest amount possible.

I kinda agree with you on Heartbreak Hotel, it's just one of those songs that's gotten cliched.
But still...great rock & roll.
