Well, the 1940s were pretty shitty. They had a good excuse, though.

Anyway, Clash UK/"Heroes" for me.

1940s had some of the best classical music ever written and some of the best jazz.

I'm a fan of pop music, words, guitars, simplicity, and modernity. In my experience (obviously not comprehensive, but whose fucking is?) the only people my age who actively listened* to jazz have been intolerable douchebags and those who actively listened to classical have been psychopaths and assassins-in-the-making.

*defined as not just owning a few albums or concertos but giving them the majority of one's listening attention

I think punk fans are way worse actually. Mostly because they just actively dislike musical competence. And because it's impossible for them to express their opinions in a way that's insightful rather than just sounding like a snotty 10 year old who thinks he already knows everything there is to know about music because he subscribes to some trendy magazine he can quote to death.

Jazz and classical fans tend to at least have some kind of deep musical knowledge, it doesn't justify their stuck up snobbery at all, but it's something.

Sounds like you may want to try actually listening to jazz music from the 40s.

Pretty sure you love the Sex Pistols.

Which is why I find it odd that you would criticize 1940s jazz which is pop music and is fairly simple music (a lot of it is quite profound but it isn't the arty jazz of later periods). But in all honesty, while fans of certain styles of music are annoying, I've never gotten fans turning someone off music if the music has redeeming features (it can be an extra turnoff for shitty music).

No, I like that one album they made. And what the fuck does that have to do with anything?

I still think they are the most overrated phenomenon in rock music history. And that the impact of punk rock is more negative than positive.

The modern music climate wouldn't be remotely as bad as it is if punk had never existed. And that's the truth.

So without the Ramones, there would be no Black Eyed Peas?
