So I don't usually express my taste on here very often, but there are quite a few artists and albums I wish more people on DDD would listen to. I'm also open for recommendations.
Album: Beacons Artist: Cloudkicker Genre: Djent, Progressive Metal, Post-Rock, Post-Metal, Math Metal Sounds Like: A cross between Meshuggah and Mogwai
Admittedly, this artist is not for everybody. However, if you enjoy music for music's sake then this album is worth checking out. It is very guitar centric, but not in an over the top Michael Angelo Batio shredfest kind of way. Cloudkicker is an unsigned act comprised of a single member that writes, plays, records, programs, produces, and distributes his own music, along with creating his own album artwork. His best album is Beacons (imo), although The Discovery is also pretty high quality. Let Yourself Be Huge is his most recent album, which is on the much more mellow side. You can listen to and download all of his music for free here: http://cloudkicker.bandcamp.com/
Album: West Coast Artist: Studio Genre: Balearic Beat, Indie Electronic, New Wave
This is a highly recommended album for everybody. I find this album to be excellent to listen to when just chilling out on a summer day and reading in a park or on campus. It'd probably be even more fitting for the beach or boating, but I've yet to listen to it under those circumstances. Regardless of setting, I have a hard time not enjoying this album. I'd be interested in hearing music like it, since I'm not really sure what to compare it to.
