My personal ranking of the releases:

1. Roman Candle
2. Grand Mal: Studio Rarities
3. New Moon
4. Elliott Smith
5. Figure 8
6. XO
7. From a Basement on a Hill
8. Either/Or Sessions
9. Either/Or

Incidentally, there are so many amazing live bootlegs out there, they really should release a few live albums.

There used to be an incredible website: trashtreasury.com that had MP3s of virtually every live show Elliott ever did, but the url has sadly expired. :( http://www.somesongs.net/ is still cool though.

Yeah that beginning seven song stretch is incredible, although 'I Better Be Quiet Now' might be my favourite.

The whole album just flows perfectly. There's so many amazing songs on it, but I'd pick "Happiness" as my favourite off it if pushed.

Where have you seen it get all the hate? Basement is the album I've seen been criticised by fans really and that's only because in his death the record company released what wasn't necessarily what Elliott set out to do with that album. I agree though, Figure 8 is just such a beautiful album.

No 'Going Nowhere' or 'Half Right', Avery? :nono:

But really though, good list. I couldn't compile a top 50 ever probably, props to you.

Just because they're not in my top 50, doesn't mean I don't absolutely love them. :thumb: I just love his music way too much in general.

Basement is such a joke of an album. Which is sad because it easily has his strongest and most experimental songs, it was just ruined by poor production/planning/research. That mistake they made with Ostriches & Chirping basically sums it up.

Not to mention "Shooting Star" which was Elliott's favourite song from the album was given some obscure track placement, rather than a main-piece of the album. Whatever the production company did with it though, it still has some absolutely incredible songs on it.
