Apparently she got dropped by her label for Rihanna. I was reminded of her while I was checking out an Ashanti song on youtube, another forgotten early 00's r'n'b female singer.

Definitely. I don't care that they were fake, there's still a lot of charm and innoncence in the acting. Hell, maybe it's just nostalgia. The music clip for All the Things She Said destroyed me as a kid. Those type of lesbian relationships make my heart hurt (no homo).

On a side note, Fucking Amal rules.

Eh kind of. Regardless of their music, they sold and represented themselves as a couple that had experienced prejudice, and while a lot of people connected to that (and got into them BECAUSE of that) it's still dishonest. But aside from that, cool beats yo?

Lots of great music is built upon being dishonest. I mean, it's what people like Dylan and Waits have made careers out of. I don't see it as a bad thing, so long it as it gets an emotional reaction out of the person listening to it.

Regardless of the insincerity, the message still remains, no?

sincerity has very little to do with the final product. other than the case of t.a.t.u where it's fairly obvious as to what they were selling, it's not easy or healthy in the realm of music appreciation to question artists' and how 'real' or 'sincere' their work is. there's no way of knowing. the guy could have put his heart into the record or could have collected a bunch of tumblr quotes and compiled them, it doesn't matter. as georgi said, if there's a personal connection then the artist has succeeded.

listened to it last night, I'm not sure what I think about it. It seems like he was trying to take Kanye's MBDTF route and do something really personal, which I respect him for, but I have always preferred his lighter stuff. My least favorite part of the "Love King" album is the stretch of songs in the middle (starting right after "Yamaha") where he gets too sad. I dunno, I'm gonna sit with it.

Have you heard anything by her parent group, 4minute? They were the queens of hard-edged dance pop up until this year when they released a really lame album, but their EPs Muzik and Hit Ur Heart are fantastic.
