A small point piper, but there's only one "s" in Morrison for Van's name. ;)

No. Still only just getting into Veedon Fleece, which I have to say I much prefer to Moondance.

Veedon Fleece is making a strong case to take over Astral Weeks.

Just to concentrate on Veedon Fleece for a minute, the guitar playing throughout always grabs my attention. Really like the little flourishes, especially in Comfort You, which I'll call my favourite Van track for now. His falsetto on Linden Arden and Who Was That Masked Man are also absolutely awesome.
Anyway, not to say that you can't compare Fleece and Moondance, but obviously they are aiming at two totally different things. Being a massive stax volt fan myself I love what he's aiming at with the Moondance album.

You MUST listen to Listen To The Lion soon. The idea of Van imitating a lion on record is ludicrous on paper, but in practice that song is possibly his greatest triumph.

Ok gimme your help here guys, I'm a little stuck on how to balance the tiers, on whether it should be fans' views or critics/sales that holds sway. Anyway i'm thinking that Oranges for Weeks & Moondance, Reds for SDP, Veedon Fleece & It's Too Late To Stop Now and bolds for Tupelo Honey and Into The Music. Thoughts?

What do you think of the tiering I've done, Nick?

Obviously haven't done the live albums etc. yet, so It's Too Late to Stop Now will be getting a red.

Veedon Fleece and St. Dominic's Preview are both amazing and my favorite Van albums.

... some trivia from Feb 1966 ... Take care

Irish group Them had undergone several changes of personnel over the preceding couple of years; so many in fact, that some of the ex-members got together and, under the management of the eccentric Reg Calvert, named themselves Them. Calvert registered Them Ltd as a copyrighted name, an act that caused Van Morrison’s manager, Phil Solomon, to retaliate and copyright the names of two of Calvert’s other groups, The Fortunes and Pinkerton’s Assorted Colours and give them to two unknown Irish groups.

Way across the country where the hillside mountain glide
The dynamo of your smile caressed the barefoot virgin child to wander

Past your window with a lantern lit
You held it in the doorway and you cast against the pointed island breeze
Said your time was open, go well on your merry way

Past the brazen footsteps of the silence easy

You breathe in you breathe out you breathe in you breathe out you breath in you breathe out you breathe in you breathe out

And you're high on your high-flyin' cloud
Wrapped up in your magic shroud as ecstasy surrounds you
This time it's found you
You turn around you turn around you turn around you turn around

And I'm beside you
Beside you
Oh darlin'

To never never wonder why at all
No no no no no
To never never never wonder why at all
To never never never wonder why
It's gotta be
It has to be
And I'm beside you
Beside you
Oh child
To never never wonder why at all
I'm beside you
Beside you
Beside you
Beside you
Oh child

Gives me the shivers just thinking about that song.
