I figured if I grouped these three genres together, they'd get a decent discussion going. I do remember a folk thread on the old forum.

I like Steve Earle a lot. Both his earlier, more pure country music and his more well-regarded alt-country work.

16 horsepower are awesome. been trying to latch onto some steve earle for some time but it's all very poor quality. you heard his kid, clarke? harlem river blues is an enjoyable, if unspectacular record. i'd say grievous angel has been by far my most played country album recently. damn beautiful.

Has anyone heard of Builders & The Butchers? They're a pretty awesome gothic country act. They're like a cross between Murder By Death and The Decemberists.
