A metal album that I just can't get enough of lately is Veil: Dolor.
Absolutely searing guitars, and minimalist drumming and bass. My kind of black metal.
If I can figure out how to link a youtube video, I will.

Rhythm and vocals buried way too deep in the mix.

Maybe suicide black metal is not your thing.

In your world.
To each their own.
Here is another one that I can't stop listening to.

That Veil song was pretty good, I think I'll listen to that album at some point.

Still doesn't hold a candle to Gris.

Careful, you might like it ALOT, like I do.

I have been trying to get my hands on a competitively priced Gris CD: il etait une foret. None avail. Will keep looking.
I like what I have heard of it so far.

Dudes, been listening to a lot of Cold Body Radiation, An Autumn for Crippled Children, and Alcest. They're like the trifecta of awesome 2010 black metal/shoegaze bands. Throw in Alter of Plagues and you've got a party of win. Seriously challenging Wolves for my favorite of that American BM style. Anyone know any comparable bands?

I'll be seeing Alcest tomorrow, should be sweet.
Apparently Neige has some side-project with a couple of the guys from Drudkh that obviously sounds like a cross between Alcest and Drudkh, but from the track I heard, not as good as either by themselves.

So ages after Nesquik nominated the Lvmen song, No. 3 in the old songs tournament, I revisited it and ended up downloading the album it's from. Really loving these guys, the mix of post-hardcore and post rock works perfectly. Heaps of Slint influence apparent here, but also sounds borderline black metal in places.

Orion nominated it, but I still love it.

If you like Vektor then you should check out Hexen's State of Insurgency. It's a really great album, and I probably like it more than Black Future.

Ah, I saw that you'd reviewed it on RYM and figured you must've been the nominator. Have you heard any of their other albums? How do they compare to Raison D'etre?

Haven't heard them and I second the recommendation of that Hexen album.

So Ive been giving forms of extreme metal a try lately. Listened to Altars of Madness for the 1st time and loved it, hated myself for writing off death metal too. Then I got my hands on the Israeli band Orphaned Land's Sahara, which was also quite enjoyable. Lastly, I listened to Autopsy's Mental Funeral and it might be the 1st non classic heavy metal album Id give a 10/10 to at 1st listen, as I was completely floored by it. Oh, I also listened to Pale Folklore, which is the 1st Agalloch album Ive listened to in entirety, and again, solid and enjoyable, and seeing that people call that their worst album, Im sure to love all their subsequent albums.

Orphaned Land's Mabool is incredible and Mental Funeral is a classic metal album.

Immediately listen to The Mantle by Agalloch.
