They'll be recording their new material (15 songs – 5 of which they haven't yet played live) next January, shooting for an early 2012 release.

And I'll be seeing Avey on Tuesday!

I find it really strange to think how obsessed I was with these guys in 09, but now, I just about don't listen to them at all. Hopefully the new album will kick me out of that malaise.

Oh and if you guys play Red Dead Redemption at all, apparently they (the whole band) recorded a song for the second one but it got rejected and Avey's playing it solo on his tour now.

And one last thing, Avey said that they're thinking of reworking Mouth Wooed Her, La Rapet and Purple Bottle (!) for their next tour whenever that'll be.

And oh yeah Deakin'll probably have his album coming out next year too.

in the studio in January. awesome, do you know how long it usually takes them to record an album? obviously theres circumstances that would make it change but a general timeframe would be cool

I kind of feel the the same with their last couple of albums but I still listen to Feels and Sung Tongs a fair bit. Not listened to them in a while though because it's bloody freezing and I'm constantly miserable, so pretty much an antithesis of the perfect AC-listening environment. I do hope they include more guitar on their new album, which could happen seeing as Deakin is back.

Well, MPP was recorded a year before it actually came out, but I think that was a bit of an anomaly. In this new interview with Avey he says it'll probably come out around next fall. I'm really pumped for this new LP; the songs I've heard from bootlegs are pretty darn amazing.

And seeing Avey tonight!

Dang that was a really sick show. He played mostly new stuff, and it all sounded really good. So much bass. I talked to him for like 30 seconds after the show and he signed my ticket and he said he'd be recording his new stuff. If anyone wants a high quality boot, go right here.

So, Animal Collective are recording their next album right now and I thought I'd post some good vids of the new stuff (all names are fan-created and tentative). They describe the sound they're going for as "a band from an alien planet imitating the sounds on earth"...

Change (Deakin's 1st song with the group):

Let Go (likely single):

A Long Time Ago:

Take This Weight (a personal favorite from the new batch):

Knock You Down (along with Take This Weight, the centerpiece of the new stuff; really jammy):

Mercury (this has an integral King Tubby sample):

Your Choice:

Frights:

I'd Rather/Little Kid (a Panda-->Avey suite; the Panda part could be another single, has really sweet vocals and is super catchy):

Personally, I really dig where they've taken their sound and I think this new stuff has the potential to be the best stuff they've ever done.

-----------

And if you're curious about Avey's new stuff he played a month or few ago, check this video:

His vocals on these songs (especially the first) are so sick. I think he said he'll be releasing an EP or some sort of live album of these songs.
