Damn. I wish the beginning of Into the Music could compare to the final four tracks.

I think Bright Side of the Road is just as good, though obviously quite different.

The final four tracks are his career peak as far as I'm concerned but I liked side one a lot in its own way as well. Bright Side of The Road, Full Force Gale, Troubadours I like a lot.

Why am I having so much trouble getting into Veedon Fleece? Am I missing something?

Well, I don't mean to sound like a dick, but yes.

Just give it a few more tries I guess?

Haha I've listened to it four or five times, yet. Maybe I just need a more focused listen. It just hasn't hit me.

Just heard "Got to Go Back" from No Guru, No Method, No Teacher and it's awesome!

Going to give the rest of the album a listen to now.

Also, is it just me or does Van have a ridiculous number of great forgotten/lesser known/barely talked about albums?

I'd be more inclined to say he has many, many lesser known songs. His albums dropped off for me, but he always retained the ability to scatter great songs among lesser albums.

Great shout re Got To Go Back.

On a related note, try Take Me Back from Hymns To The Silence.

Will definitely give that a listen, nick? :thumb:

Anyone want to give me a list of great lesser known Van songs I can give a listen?

edit: Oh, I've just seen ahawk's list on the previous page. Will definitely have a listen of the songs on that one.

It's amazing that The Way Young Lovers Do is simultaneously the catchiest song on Astral Weeks and the most bizarre and cacophonous. Really love it. It used to be one of my least favorites, and I'd still probably take a majority of the album over it (which isn't saying much because every song is a solid 10/10 for me), but it's grown since my first listen and I love its place on the album smack dab between two long, slow-burning, quieter numbers.

Was wondering if anyone had heard this alternate version of Madame George:
