also, brilliant job. Beside mention of rekha numbers in Umrao Jaan(a must) , mention of Disco dancer and some RD Burman tracks, youve perfectly laid out a great foundation for Bollywood music. Needs more Rahman tracks, from Bombay and Roja and Sapney

Props to include Urvasi, the popularity of that track is unmatched

also, you could include some of the latest ones in the evolution. lots changed since lagaan ....

Ah, well as always, there's always the 'music was so much better back then' etc going on, but there are some genuine gems in recent times.

for example, these 3 are probably my favorite bollywood songs in the last 10 years.musical masterpieces I think, especially the 3rd one

the post 2000 tamil smash hit

and couple others, more soulful songs. and the 3rd one, screw DDD list of mother songs, thats Numero Uno for me.

my favorites among the 'item numbers'. last two are quite recent, while the 1st is pretty darn popular internationally i guess, due to being featured in Moulin Rouge

and last 3 from AR Rahman, all from 1 movie, a must watch, and an incredible incredible song list

Also, cant forget this one out.....goddamn what a song !!!

oh yes, and some of the old essentials...

Umrao Jaan, absolutely stellar songs, and the way rekha portrayed them

Silsila, probably the ultimate movie in Bollywood as far as romantic songs go, or Lata and Kishore Kumar are concerned. you posted one song, but seriously, this has to be the greatest soundtrack a movie's had in Bollywood

[youtube]

and another from the 80s, RD Burmans best probably, intro reminds me a bit of kraftwerk

in conclusion, yeah, bollywood music's awesome !!

While we're in Brazil, what's a good first rec for Gal Costa?

both of her (kind of self titled) 1969 albums are amazing, i slightly prefer this one

bear in mind her 1971 live album is one of the best ever too, her voice on this is just o_O

some music from Bangladesh. Wonder what you guys think, since this is as traditional as our music gets. Its mostly forgotten now though, thanks to western and bollywood influence(and not the good kind)

folk music is often just the best kind of music.

Absolutely the sort of music I love and adore.
