Dont really think of her in that same kind of raw, unbridled energy kind of style that Richard personified, but yeah she could be mentioned.

Roy Brown as well.

I bet there are much worse names for a boy than Wynonie.

Anyway, getting back on topic, I'd like to participate, though I don't know whether I can be of much help. Let me say for now, that I like how both Dickinson and Halford are outside the Top 15, but Gillan really should show up soon. Some 1950's names that might be worthy considering: Tony Williams of The Platters, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Roy Hamilton and for females Big Maybelle and Big Mama Thornton.

All great names, especially Williams and Hamilton, two of the absolute best.

Nah, I was trying to get away from that names thing. I much rather was referring to their vocal influence. Also "Screamin' Jay" and "Big Mama" are much more badass names than "Williams" or "Hamilton".

I don't have any onjections. Another suggestion from my side would be Lou Reed. Also maybe Andre Williams and Gil Scott-Heron as early influences on rapping if that counts. Maybe even Doug E. Fresh, the first human beat box, or would that be too far removed from a traditional understanding of the term vocals?

Yeah, but this is the "most influential" thread.

I would not include rap. And thank you so much for getting involved Paul. (I'm getting far too familiar with Creep.)

I'd also like to mention The Dominoes' Bill Brown, who, I believe, was the first lead singing bass in rock music.

EDIT: Oh, and I'm fine with not including rapping.

Speaking of the Dominos, why not Billy Ward himself?

You REALLY should double-check that suggestion.

He taught Jackie Wilson things about singing. How bad can he be?
