I wasn't aware that he had such powers.

But yeah. I'm pretty much the biggest soul fan on here, besides Nick who isn't around anymore. I'm really not as well-acquainted with it as Sampson is though...

I know Nate Dogg isn't a traditional straight up R and B singer in the
sense that he often has parts in rap songs but damn .......(sadly he's had a couple of stroke and as far as I know he's not in the game anymore)

but for those of you who don't know his lesser known works here's a couple of my favorites...

what do you think??

In that case, I think the top 10 should look more like this...

1. Sam Cooke
2. Jackie Wilson
3. Clyde McPhatter
4. Smokey Robinson
5. Stevie Wonder
6. Marvin Gaye
7. David Ruffin
8. Roy Hamilton
9. Al Green
10. Solomon Burke

Should we give this the same criteria as the greatest rock vocalists list?

1. Sam Cooke
2. Jackie Wilson
3. Clyde McPhatter
4. Roy Hamilton
5. Tony Williams
6. Marvin Gaye
7. Smokey Robinson
8. Solomon Burke
9. Levi Stubbs
10. Al Green

Hm, I dont know if he really beats any of those guys, strictly from a vocal standpoint.
Sampson knows more about the genre than anyone here, and he also didnt have him in the top 10.
Top 15, I think.

These criteria look different, unless this list has adopted the usual criteria. If so, my guess would be Stevie had more impact outside of the realm of R&B than these people did and maybe had some influence outside of R&B as well.

Cooke also had a shitload of impact outside of r&b. People like Rod Stewart and Steve Perry were immensely influenced by Sam.
