caught up between two different obsessions. one with Jay Z and Kanye (just loaded up my mp3 player with all Kanye albums as well as Blueprint and Black Album). the other with Skip James.

i managed to somehow ignore the Bug bandwagon a few years ago, and i hate myself for it cause i just had one of the best musical nights of my life listening to tons of Kevin Martin stuff. soooo sooo awesome in every way.

also at the moment i'm really digging The Goat Rodeo Sessions and a lot of progressive bluegrass, most of Will Oldham's stuff, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Bukka White and a lot of other pre-war acoustic blues singers, Tricky, The Sonics, a ton of psychobilly but mainly The Cramps, John Lee Hooker, Nels Cline Singers, Bad Brains, and oddly enough early Metallica (wtf?)

listening to my mp3 at work for 8 hours a day and getting paid = awesome.

my The Bug fascination turned in to me stumbling down a rabbit hole of industrial hip hop, grime, underground hip hop, left field, and trip hop. i'm completely new to grime and left-field and fairly new to trip hop as well. this is going t be awesome.

very cool, let me know if you want recs. grime is one hell of a dark and scary road but really interesting when you get down to it and helps understanding the modern dubstep phenomenon

i would love recs for any of those styles, thanks. right now, i'm so new to all this that i'm not sure where the boundaries of each style quite end. especially as left-field blends with trip hop or with underground rap.

as for grime, i'm starting with the Run the Road comps (got vol 2 downloading atm, trying to find a good download of vol 1 but torrents of them seem hard to find). but i have no idea where to go from there, other than Dizzee Rascal. i'm also not really sure where garage rap becomes grime and which artists are considered which.

I'm comfortable saying this is the best 11 minutes 45 seconds of 2011. Did y'all see The Weeknd is issuing remasters? Hoping they get a vinyl release with beautiful, big-ass artwork *drools

today i literally listened to "Gone" 7 times in a row because i couldn't stop. that beat is just so addictive. i remember hearing it in the music tourney (i think maybe wanta nom'd it?) and not really getting into it at first and i have no idea why because i can't get enough of it now. it may have just been a case where i had to hear more Kanye first before that song really clicked.

Gone was the song that turned me into a Kanye fanboy, after hearing it in that tournament. I don't know if Wanta nominanted it, but he did such a great job of describing how awesome it was.

We should definitely do more of those tournaments, just on a smaller, more manageable scale. There's no reason why we can't have those communal forum listening experiences as regularly as say, a mafia game in the general.

I support the idea. Maybe 1-2 songs/poster, to keep it easy and fun?
