In My Life - Johnny Cash

I actually can't decide which is better. Both have their own strengths.

"Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey" by The Feelies is number one in this regard

Yes because they deprived it of all energy and melody just like a good indie band should.

FUCK The Feelies, they're awful. Influencing REM was pretty much the only positive outcome of their music.

And now that most indie rock bands today are blatant ripoffs of The Feelies there is absolutely no reason for anyone to want to listen to these hacks unless they want to know where the completely bland indie rock sound originated.

I only have two that come to mind, and nobody ever seems to agree with me. But Earth Wind & Fire's "Got to Get you Into my Life" and Stevie's "We Can Work it Out." Especially the latter. I'm biased because the EWF/Stevie versions are the versions I grew up with, so when I got around to listening to the Beatles versions they felt like covers in my mind.

Ok maybe a little hyperbolic, I've calmed down a bit. But I really don't get the appeal of this band at all.

Deprived of energy? It sounds like the Beatles' version if they had 6 cups of coffee before recording. I guess you're just not into it, but I love the jittery energy of Crazy Rhythms. Though one thing this version is really missing is the punch of Paul's bass.

I don't know, I love jangly guitars in rock when The Beatles, The Byrds, The Smiths and REM did but now it has become one of the most overused and boring cliches in indie rock, only now indie bands have removed all the excess fat like melodies and vocalists who don't make me want to rip my fucking eardrums out.

And I know who to blame for it all.

I really hate their sound, but I will admit they're not terrible musicians, their cover of Paint to Black proves that they could play.

I just listened to it. Singing is very good, but I don't like the gimmicky arrangement at all.
