The effect of your harm has no bearing on your status as a thief. The band and the label (absent circumstances where they actually encourage it) don't want you bootlegging concerts. Your violating their intellectual property rights. Therefore, (under your rules) you're a thief.

Where did he say that?

If his position is that you should never download or copy music you could pay for, then there's nothing inherently inconsistent about that.

Bingo. Thanks, Brett.

That's not what your position used to be. And you could have bought concert tickets.

After multiple listens, though I like the album quite a bit, but still,

Superfly is overrated and Curtis>>Superfly

I'm pretty sure it is.

In some cases I did. In other cases I wasn't born yet. In still others I was like five-years-old. In other cases, I was on a different continent. In all cases, I would purchase it if it were to be commercially released.

So you do recognize that the laws as they exist are flawed (they would make no distinction between a bootleg download and a CD download)? And your position really can't be that either is theft.

Downloading a commercially available album for free is theft. I don't know how you could argue otherwise. Unless it's something like Radiohead's In Rainbows.

no it isn't. theft is removal of property.
it isn't wrong either. ipso facto.
neither is it damaging the artist.
why are we having this argument in like 4 threads on the forum now

You're using an archaic definition. Do you get all pedantic like this when someone says Dane Cook stole Louis C.K.'s jokes?

Negative. Superfly is usually considered to be his masterpiece. also, Superfly was a number 1 album for 4 weeks, Curtis barely cracked the top 20. Superfly had 2 top 10 singles, Curtis none. Also, Superfly has Pusherman and the title track, both bigger than any song on Curtis. Also, higher RYM ratings, higher greatest list ratings, and I could go on.

BUT, Curtis is better.

Superfly is by no means a bad album, but it is very boring compared to the genius of Curtis.

OH so if I take a painting from someone's private collection that isn't commercially available that's no theft? What a wonderful relief!

Both of the big Curtis Mayfield albums are boring.
