There's a substantial difference between a bootleg and a pirated album.

The effect of your harm has no bearing on your status as a thief. The band and the label (absent circumstances where they actually encourage it) don't want you bootlegging concerts. Your violating their intellectual property rights. Therefore, (under your rules) you're a thief.

Where did he say that?

If his position is that you should never download or copy music you could pay for, then there's nothing inherently inconsistent about that.

People paid money for tickets to those concerts. Ergo, he's stealing money from Keith Moon. Because of him Keith Moon's corpse is starving. :(

But to answer Clash's question more directly, I also bought a Matchbox 20 CD once. I never put it on a computer and I threw it away. Why would I get rid of music I paid for? Because I don't want to listen to it anymore. Doing otherwise would make me a hoarder and I guess I'm just not that crazy.

Couldn't you just sell it?

I never got to the point where I bought most. But back when I downloaded a lot (roughly 2004 to 2009), I bought a lot of music. Now, I hardly ever download anything and I buy even less.

His position as he's articulated it before is that if you violate IP law and download something illegally then you've committed theft.

I just found out what the phrase "douche chills" means and immediately thought of this post.
