Which is literal in this case since I got it all by burning my friend's Zeppelin CDs (which he paid for) like 12 years and three computers ago. Put me in jail, I deserve it!

You unscrupulous bastard.

The other day I was hanging out with my dad, and he described Canned Heat as "A good band. Good enough that you really hoped your friend would buy their record."

Today people just have more "friends," not necesarily less "scruples."

That's exactly why it's become a problem.

I'd buy them if they were officially released, though.

The music industry isn't going to revive itself by viewing the internet as a problem. I'm pretty sure it's here to stay.

But how does that justify stealing music?

There's a substantial difference between a bootleg and a pirated album.

I end up buying most of the albums I pirate at some point.

The effect of your harm has no bearing on your status as a thief. The band and the label (absent circumstances where they actually encourage it) don't want you bootlegging concerts. Your violating their intellectual property rights. Therefore, (under your rules) you're a thief.

What? Who needs justification for stealing music? Nobody has good justification and everyone does it anyways, yourself included.

Someone in the industry has to start dealing with reality at some point. The pop morality debate is long since over.
