I think I like Joy Division, but I also may just enjoy that they're that 80s ban that isn't the smiths. I haven't figured out the finer nuances of my taste on that front, yet.

Also, in the spirit of this topic, here is an opinion that may be unpopular here:

Bruce Springsteen has one good song: Thunder Road. That Thunder Road is good isn't unpopular, obviously, but the rest is. I think.

hmm in the spirit of the topic, i dont think joy division and gnr are comparable at all. if there were ever opposite aesthetics in rock music..

that being said, gnr rank as one of the worst bands of all time, for me. so it's no contest at all personally. i think unknown pleasures is a tad overrated (ian curtis himself is quite overrated), but closer changed my life some 3-4 years ago. and im willing to bet joy division were much more of an harder live act than gnr, despite the latter's bombast

plus. peter hook + stephen morris >> anyone in gnr.

On a similar vain:

Slash > Morrissey

Literally every time I listen to the Smiths I get less interested.

Definitely true.

Also I recently tried listening to The Queen is Dead in preparation for the 80s list. Emphasis on tried. Cannot believe that the same body I am in now once thought that this was the summit of musical expression.

the queen is dead is a very situational album in people's lives, i can't imagine many people in their mid or late 20's listening to it for the first time and being swept away by it. definitely a late teen-early 20's loner album

I've definitely lost a bit of love for the Smiths since my life stopped being described by their lyrics, but I listened to Strangeways, Here We Come today and it was surprisingly moving.

Weird enough, I really love the queen is dead. Joy Division just dont click with me, it's not me to completely dislike them, Closer's actually a good album, and the last 3 song along with Colony I really like, but I just dont see what's THAT big a deal. Also, I dont get how queen is dead is depressing, or Disintegration for that matter. I love both the albums, but I've never found the depression.

But yeah, I like seeing how tastes change on here.

Not sure how one can even compare Joy Division to Guns N Roses.

Einstürzende Neubauten > Van Halen
