Have yet to really sit down and think about this and listen to albums i need to hear. But I figured something is better than nothing -- in case I never get around to it, here is a short list. This was done in 5 minutes, and only including albums that I have listened to approximately recently, for the sake of tr00ness.

1 King Crimson - Red
2 Television - Marquee Moon
3 The Beach Boys - Surf's Up
4 Giorgio Moroder - From Here to Eternity
5 Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
6 Alex R. Costandinos and the Syncophonic Orchestra - Romeo & Juliet
7 The Stooges - Fun House
8 Kraftwerk - Trans Europa Express
9 Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene
10 Wire - Pink Flag
11 The Modern Lovers - The Modern Lovers
12 Carole King - Tapestry
13 David Bowie - Low
14 David Bowie - "Heroes"
15 Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures

Some others that I will for sure be including at some point, not sure where though. Also a bunch of the standard 70s albums.:

Death - ...For the Whole World to See
Serge Gainsbourg - Histoire de Melody Nelson
Funkadelic - One Nation Under a Groove
Tony Conrad with Faust - Outside the Dream Syndicate
The Cure - Boys Don't Cry
The Alan Parsons Project - I Robot
Carla Bley & Paul Haines - Escalator Over the Hill

I am surprised that I am the only one to mention an ELO album as of yet. I thought they had a decent following here

ELO's Greatest Hits made my list, albeit pretty low.

ELO was an impressive singles band, and if the 1979 hits album had included some other, specific singles (by being a double album or something) like "Confusion" and "Do Ya", it would have possibly made my list.

I'm not too big on ELO's actual albums, and even so my favorite ELO album is Time, which came out in 1981.

That's from 1980. It's a compilation of 1970's material primarily from their 1979 debut album "Three Imaginary Boys", but Wanta said post-70's compilations of 70's materials are not allowed.

Besides the more obvious choices from ELO, ELO II is a good prog album.

Red might just end up being the top album. I think it'll place very highly on a lot of people's lists.

I love it all, its my #1, but I can easily see how a song like Red could just sound repetitive. However, I will never understand how someone could not swept up by the second half of Providence.
