Really?

I never really pegged you as someone who would like Italian opera.

Puccini is one of the few composers that turned me on to opera at all.

I prefer Verdi to Puccini personally. Italian opera is probably tied with German opera for my favorite, not too big on French opera.

I just got myself reobsessed with Brahms' Clarinet Quintet. So incredible on so many levels--I don't even know what to say about the piece.

Pearlman's recording of Bach's sonatas and partitas for solo violin. I know Pearlman's not regarded as one of the great Bach interpretors, but this just brings a tear to my eye, it's so powerful. Currently listening to Partita #2 in D minor, this music transcends beauty!

yeah, I'm definitely a fan. Do you know his two clarinet sonatas? Or the clarinet trio now that I mention it. They were all written right about the same time near the end of his life and each of them are my favorite piece ever.

Brahms is someone I have heard very little of, or at least that I know that I've heard, I just recognize the name. During my last classical phase I was all about symphonies, but more and more I am much more intrigued by the quartets and quintets and all that stuff. I don't really write or talk about classical music a lot (and thus enough), but that was really good.

I'll check out the clarinet sonatas soon and get back to you about them.

I'm slowly tackling Wagner's Tristan und Isolde (Bernstein recording).

Also listening to a fair amount of Bartok these days, getting more familiar with his work. I have The Miraculous Mandarin, Concerto for Orchestra, Music for Strings Percussion and Celesta, and all of his string quartets.
